Highlight The Sims™ 2 Pets in your games menu. Once highlighted, press "OK" to start the game. You will be asked if you would like to play the game with sound. Select "yes" or "no" using the right or left soft keys. After one splash screen, you will be asked to press "OK" to bring up the "Main Menu."

How to Start the Game
Select "New Game" from the Main Menu. You are prompted to create a human Sim with these options:

Gender: Male or Female

Skin Tone: 4 options

Hair Style: 4 options
-
Hair Color: 4 options

Name: Limited to 8 characters
After entering your Sim's name, you are prompted to choose a puppy. Select from the following options:
-
Breeds: Labrador, Chihuahua, Pug, Mutt, Whippet (An ultimate "Robot Breed" dog can be unlocked by guiding your Sim to the top of the career ladder.)

Coat Color: 3 options per breed

Name: Limited to 8 characters
Your puppy will need to be cared for. You will have to feed, bathe, play with and care for your pet. Your pet has 5 basic needs, or "motives:"
Hunger
Bladder
Energy
Fun
Hygiene
The puppy will let you know if it needs anything. There is an icon for each motive and a colored bar to help you keep track of your pet's needs.
You can train your puppy to do tricks, and to do (or not to do) some certain actions. You can also buy supplies at the store and the shopkeeper will provide advice.
If "Hints" are toggled "ON" in the Options menu, several introductory hints will be displayed which explain gameplay basics - how to call your pet and how to provide for its basic needs like sleep, food, play and hygiene. For more information, go to the "Help" menu, and familiarize yourself with the ways to go to the pet store, how to select objects, teach tricks, play fetch, go to sleep and bed.
Controls
Pressing LEFT or RIGHT on the D-pad will cycle between your pet and the different objects in the room. Press "OK" to see a list of options related to that object, or to call your Pet.
While in-game, press the left soft key to bring up the "Pause Menu." From here you can "Resume Game,"
select "Options," select "Help," or quit to the "Main Menu."
Press the right soft key while in-game to bring up the "Go-To" menu. Here you find the "Pet Store," as well as detailed information on the status of your Sim and dog. You can monitor your food inventory, your Sim's job title, salary and earnings, your pet's tricks, your goals, and the status of your pet's basic needs.

How do I launch the game?
Highlight "TheSims2Pets" in your Games Menu and press the "OK" key. This will load the game: the EA splash screen will appear, followed by the game "Main Menu."
How do I start to play?
In the "Main Menu," you can highlight options by using the Up/Down directions on the D-pad. To access an option, highlight it and press the ''Select'' (right soft) key. There are seven options on this screen:

What game options are available?

How do I access the Help section?
Highlight "Help" in the game main menu and press ''OK'' to access the Help section. You can browse through the available topics in this section by highlighting the topic you wish to view and pressing "OK."
How do I navigate through the game?
Use left and right directions on the D-pad to target different objects in the world, including your puppy. Press "OK" to view the available interaction options available for the targeted object. When the camera lands on your puppy, select "OK" to teach it a trick.

How do I view my statistics?
To view detailed information about your progress, press the right soft key in-game to bring up the Go To menu. Now use up and down on the d-pad to flip through the different tabs of information.
